Bats

batPicking up the Bat Signal

The Little Brown Bat is the most common bat in North America. As a nocturnal mammal, you’ll most likely glimpse bats during dusk when they emerge to find their evening meal.

What they Eat

The Little Brown Bat is an insectivore, feasting on moths, wasps, beetles, and mosquitoes.

Where they Live

Bats prefer to roost near standing water where insects - like mosquitoes - tend to lay their eggs.

Life with Humans

If a suitably quiet, dark, dry roosting area is not readily available – often due to loss of habitat - bats may move into man-made roosting areas, like attics. Although bats typically birth only one baby per female, they do live a long life - up to 33 years. That makes them the longest living mammal for their size in the world!  If a bat population in your home isn’t taken care of, it can grow exponentially.
